STREAMLINE HEALTH
Streamline Health is a known healthcare industry leader in translating healthcare data to enhance operational performance and improve patient care. Streamline Health was looking for a partner to help create a new user experience for one of their solutions, Clinical Looking Glass Analytics, to help build patient cohorts to improve overall quality care & treatment.
After being selected as their partner, MOON began learning epidemiology principles and analyzing their current solution & strategy. MOON advocated that they prioritize restructuring their cohort building workflow, update their technology framework, and rethink their messaging & business strategy to improve the overall success of the solution.

THE CHALLENGE: CURRENT PRODUCT
Streamline needed to update its product to be more user-friendly. The product was in a pilot at the James J. Peters Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center to help reduce admissions and improve patient outcomes. If successful, this product would be used across all the VA systems. However, the VA would not move forward if they did not address:
• Usability issues
• Address Poor performance (hours to return query)
• Decrease days of training
• Not limit it to Internet Explorer & Windows
OLD WORKFLOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE COHORT QUERY (56 interactions)
RESEARCH & LEARNING EPIDEMIOLOGY
Unfamiliar with epidemiology terminologies, we learned high-level concepts and practices in how clinical researchers built reports for population health.
USER ECOSYSTEM & PRODUCT FEEDBACK LOOP
After interviewing key stakeholders and creating system feedback loops, we realized that a few critical moments and one key challenge restricted the client's KPIs:
Real Pain Points & Challenges:
• Speed to actionable report (patient list)
• Speed to map data for faster implementation
• Cognitive overload in UI
ITERATIVE PROTOTYPING & TESTING
Since time was limited, we started with rough wireframe prototypes to understand how information looks on screen. This process allowed us to determine hierarchy, functionality, and in general, how the human eye scans the content.
For use cases, the client and team determined that the product’s KPIs were driven by a few significant use cases, not by twenty of them. So we focused their attention on those and on doing fewer things beautifully well.
UX/UI REFINEMENT & SYSTEM
Once we got the information workflow in good shape, we refined the designs to make them clearer and concise. At this point, we begin to incorporate the visual designs and apply them to other use cases for prototyping.
OUTCOME
Before our engagement with Streamline Health
• Two years of sales challenges
• Usability issues and days of training
• Only limited to Internet Explorer and Windows
Within months of testing our prototype
• Partnership engagement with the US Veterans Affair's Center of Innovation
• Multiple sale engagements with large healthcare providers and hospitals such as NantHealth, Banner Health, and DentaQuest (one of the largest dental providers in the US)
• Little to no training required
• Developed on Angular 2 Framework & compatible with multiple browsers
“From Day 1, MOON provided us with exceptional support. Their unorthodox way of thinking and ability to completely engage in our development process by sitting next to the team in the office and attending daily stand-ups was extremely valuable. Their work excited our Board of Directors, helped us present to clients at the federal level in DC, and changed the way we interact with clients at scientific meetings and trade shows. We learned so much from them and we appreciated how they went above and beyond to make sure that we as a company were successful. I highly recommend partnering with MOON.”
